Description

Rapid SupplementsPure Whey Protein Isolate (WPI) is a fairly straightforward protein powder, and the unflavoured version is particularly clean.

What you're getting

The current Unflavoured WPI from Rapid Supplements contains 100% whey protein isolate as its sole ingredient. Per serve, the manufacturer lists:

  • 27.5 g protein
  • 117 calories
  • 0.6 g fat
  • 1.1 g carbohydrates
  • 1.1 g sugar
  • 3.06 g leucine
  • About 91.6% protein on a dry basis
  • No added flavours, sweeteners or fillers
  • Naturally low in lactose

That makes it a good option if you're looking for high protein with relatively few calories and carbs.

Is whey isolate better than regular whey?

Generally, yes, if your priority is a leaner protein source.

Whey isolate (WPI) undergoes additional filtration, removing much of the lactose, fat and other components found in whey concentrate. You therefore get a higher percentage of protein per gram.

For example, Rapid's older flavoured 100% Pure WPI is reported as providing about 31.5 g protein per 40 g serve, although the flavoured product contains additional ingredients such as flavours, lecithin, gums and stevia.

Who I'd recommend it for

It's particularly useful if you:

  • ️ Want to build or maintain muscle
  • Struggle to get enough protein from food
  • Want protein without adding many calories
  • Find whey concentrate harder to digest because of lactose
  • Want something you can add to oats, yoghurt or smoothies
  • Prefer minimal ingredients

You don't need to drink it immediately after training. The important thing is getting enough total protein throughout the day.

One thing I'd watch

The unflavoured version is very different from the flavoured "100% Pure" product despite the similar name. The unflavoured product is genuinely just whey isolate, whereas the flavoured versions contain sweeteners/flavourings and other ingredients.

Also, WPI is not lactose-free in the absolute sense—it is simply much lower in lactose than concentrate.

My take: If you're after a clean, high-protein WPI, Rapid's unflavoured version looks quite good on paper. The main question is whether it's good value compared with other Australian WPI products.
